Since things have been kind of nuts due to school again I haven't taken a lot of time to post anything but that doesn't mean i haven't been out shooting, If anything lately i have actually been trying to spend more time going out to shoot. last week i had ordered a three rolls of b&w film and three rolls of color film and so far have shot one of each as well shooting some digital and actually going out and experimenting with shooting street photography with a Holga. I'm in the process of getting my film developed so I should hopefully have that up soon but I will post three photos that I took on a sunny afternoon on 6th street. I'm also pretty excited since the photo of the man doing pottery while people watch with ice cream will actually be hung up in a student/faculty exhibition at the local art museum on campus. So as always I'll have more up at some point soon, Hopefully some more of the film that I've shot.
I always hate when I end up going a week or more with out posting anything but for these photos it kind of seems worth the wait at least for me it did anyway. A while back I had posted that I had gone out and tried shooting with a Ricoh 500g rangefinder that had been given to me. it's taken a it of time to get in and get the negatives scanned but I'm pretty happy with out some of them have turned out. this definitely won't be the last time I shoot with film, I actually have another roll that I've shot while on campus at night that I can hopefully start getting developed and scanned over this next week. I also hope to go out and shoot again this weekend providing that the weather stays somewhat decent so either way there will be more pictures up pretty soon.
After a few weeks of no pictures I am happy to say that I've had a chance to go out and shoot a few days this week and am ready to get back to posting. It's been kind of nice since between the holidays and other things I haven't had a lot of time to go out and shoot and have realized how much I miss doing it.
I decided that I wanted to shoot somewhere a bit different from downtown Amarillo or 6th Street so I walked down to Medi Park, a large park by the hospital which is located not too far from where I live. There is something about parks and the people there that I have always enjoyed, the energy and the people there are so different from what you find somewhere like downtown, even when there are a lot of people there's something serene about it.
Ok,so things went kind of dead for a bit due to computer issues and the chaos that is the end of a semester. Luckily though my computer is up and running again and the semester is over which means more time to shoot. In my last post I mentioned having some stuff I had shot with film before Thanksgiving. Well I managed to get some but not all of it ready to be put up on here but that didn't happen instead I only got one or two images that came out well enough, So I'm going to keep working on that as well as be shooting more pretty soon. I did have time between classes Wednesday to go out and shoot so I wandered around the neighborhood by the campus and then to downtown Amarillo to shoot some. These are some of the better images from what I had shot that day.
While there really aren't that many that came out the way that I had hoped I still had fun going around and taking these pictures. As much as I enjoy shooting on 6th street it was kind of nice to take pictures somewhere else to change it up a bit as I would hate for taking pictures on 6th street to get stale since it's a an area that I love to take pictures of. So I'll hopefully have more pictures up pretty soon and will keep working on the pictures from the rangefinder to see what I can get.
Well I had a chance to go out and shoot again on Saturday and ended up with a few pictures that I liked. I do kind of wish there where more but I guess that's part of shooting somewhere that changes every week, somedays or just going to be more ctive than others. Anyway here are those images and I'll be shooting more again over the weekend. Again these are just a couple of the images while the rest will be up on Flickr as I'm still trying to decide if I want to keep showing my work this way or posting all of them on my blog as well as Flickr.
My name is Joseph Brown and I am currently a college student majoring in photography. As I've gone through school my interest and what I have wanted to do as a photographer has changed. That is until sometime recently when I became fascinated by street photography. Since then I have begun to make it a habit of going out into the streets to capture not just people but the very life that occurs on the streets of this city.
